Description Of Work:

Homeworks removed and built a new ground level cedar deck along the front of our house.
Member Comments:
Homeworks was actually able to begin the project earlier than estimated, and completed the deck in the time estimated. Doug offered suggestions for the new deck that gave it an updated look. He was careful to remind me that it was our deck and that he wanted to do what we wanted. Doug and his assistant were punctual, cleaned up the area each day, and the finished product is beautiful.

I contacted Doug because I had a long list of small details that needed to be addressed before I put my house on the market. He arrived on time, evaluated each problem, and made good recommendations. Over the course of the next two days, he arrived on time and completed each of the small tasks efficiently and professionally.
We had a miscommunication that resulted in him removing (and in the process, destroying) a piece of wood frame that should not have been removed. He apologized and promptly built, installed, and painted a replacement for the frame. He did not charge me for any of the time or materials for this fix. Easily, I would have agreed that I contributed to the miscommunication, but he promptly accepted full responsibility.
Doug’s good work helped me sell my place quickly and now I have him scheduled to do work at my new house.

Description Of Work:

Doug and his assistant, James, tore off our old rotting deck and replaced it with a beautiful new deck. We are SO happy with our new deck, can’t say enough how much we love it. Doug was very professional, reliable, and great about communication throughout the process. He gave us a quick estimate and was very sensitive to our budget. He is very meticulous about design details and understood that it’s important to have the deck look beautiful and not just functional. Would definitely hire him again, no complaints whatsoever!

Date Completed: April 08, 2011
Hire Again: Yes
Approximate Cost: $1,350.00
Home Build Year: 1941
Description Of Work:

Doug built our fence using some posts that were okay and having to replace 3 posts, repair a fence on the side of the house, and install a new door in our basement.

Member Comments:

Doug said he could build our fence for $325 plus materials, and install our basement door for $125. He picked up and delivered all of the materials for the fence and then gave us the receipt to reimburse him, at no extra cost. During the fence-building, we realized there had been a miscommunication about an area behind the garage. Doug picked up additional materials, didn’t up the charge and then built the additional part without charging extra. The fence looks really great and he did a good job with it. The install of the basement door turned out to be a pain (this is an old house) and it took much longer than I’m sure he anticipated. Once again, he honored his original charge and in the end we sent an extra $100 because we felt he undercharged himself. Doug did a good job, was reliable and we would use him again.

Approximate Cost: $4,000.00
Description Of Work:

We hired Doug to rebuild our deck for us, and then hired him again to build a privacy screen in front of our house.

Member Comments:

Doug has been excellent from start to finish. He was incredibly patient with us, as we worked through different design ideas (his suggestions were excellent), and he was always transparent and honest with us regarding costs and any glitches in the process. What’s impressed me most is that he doesn’t stop taking care of customers once the work is done. If you notice any problems or have any maintenance concerns, he’s always quick to pop-in and take a look. Lastly, I would just add that Doug is a very nice and honest person. We’ve recommended him to a few friends, and will continue to do so in the future.

Hire Again: Yes
Approximate Cost: $12,500.00
Description Of Work:

Doug removed our existing deck and installed a much larger deck with stairs to the yard below. He listened to my desires on our initial visit and created a deck that was customized to our design goals. Doug filed for the permit and worked with the city of Shoreline to get the deck plans approved, the inspections completed and the final approval by the city.

Member Comments:

Everything went well from start to finish. Doug removed the existing deck while we were on vacation, and began the new deck when we returned and the permit was approved. Significant progress was made each day, and anytime something came up Doug consulted with us. At the end of the project we reviewed together the few minor details that I wanted adjusted and Doug swiftly made the improvements as I requested with no additional cost. We are really happy with our new deck. We treated the deck ourselves with oil based deck stain from the Architect line of stains. What a job! I recommend getting someone else to do it!
